Propane Bobtail Driver

Job Summary

Responsible for ensuring timely propane delivery to customers on scheduled routes, reviewing orders prior to delivery, loading and unloading product and equipment, performing safety and leak checks, and providing exceptional customer service to our customers.

Education and Experience

  • Commercial Drivers License B Required, (CDL) with HazMat endorsement and Tanker endorsement, Class A Preferred
  • CEPT Preferred
  • Two (2) years driving and field experience; propane experience preferred
  • Experience with safety and leak check process and equipment
  • Must meet DOT requirements

  • Ability to maintain requirements and remain in compliance with licenses, and certifications 
  • Ability to operate a cell phone for calls, texts, and navigation purposes
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills

Work Context

The position requires driving, frequent climbing in and out of a commercial vehicle, and works mostly outdoors with exposure to the environment, elements, fumes, and gases. The employee is frequently required to stand, sit, reach with hands and arms, talk, listen, and smell; and requires good hand eye coordination, arm and finger dexterity, the ability to grasp and visual acuity. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. While performing the duties, the employee is regularly required to use written and oral communication skills through active listening and effective oral communication in person, via phone and virtually; read and interpret information; analyze and solve problems; observe and interpret people and situations; use basic math; and learn and apply new information or skills. 

Primary Job Duties

  • Operates and maintains service vehicle in accordance with company and government regulations
  • Inspects, prepares, loads, unloads, and operates delivery vehicle
  • Responsible for following assigned routes and time schedules
  • Transports and delivers propane to residential and commercial customers
  • Communicates with supervisor, dispatcher, or other office staff, and assists other drivers and/or technicians as needed
  • Accurately documents and maintains written logs, records, and reports, and delivers to the administrative office daily
  • Perform residential LPG system safety and leak checks
  • Install remote monitor gauges and monitors, sync with remote service
  • Create accurate invoices for services and deliveries to customers
  • Assist new customers in completing new account paperwork
  • Provides excellent customer service to all clients and potential clients and collects payments
  • Periodically conducts inventory checks and reports
  • Ensures compliance with all government regulations and company policies and procedures by operating all vehicles and equipment to maintain efficiency and highest safety standards
  • Abides by industry safety standards and regulations
  • May be required to work evenings and/or weekends
